1943-06-15. New Guinea. A Papuan infantry unit. A native soldier who received the Military Medal for working behind Japanese lines and obtaining valuable information, photographed on the range with an Owen gun, and the target on which he scored 11 hits out of 15 on a 30 yards range. (negative by n. Brown).

Oiva River, New Britain. 1945-02-07. NX151701 Major H.M. Lyon, officer- in- charge, B Company, 1st New Guinea Infantry Battalion. Major Lyon was previously a Company Commander in the New Guinea Volunteer Rifles. He had lived in the territory for some 13 years and was employed by Guinea Airways. Oiva River, New Britain. 1945-02-07. NGN520 Ero, B Company, 1st New Guinea Infantry Battalion moving through the jungle with his Owen gun at the ready.
