Royal New Zealand Army Education Corps
  • This Corps started life as the Army Education Welfare Service. 
  • It was raised circa 1917 and became the New Zealand Army Education Corps on 15 September 1954. 
  • In November 1963 it was granted the "Royal" prefix.

RNZ Electrical & Mechanical Engineers (KC)

Royal New Zealand Electrical & Mechanical Engineers. Formed 1 September 1946 and granted the "Royal" prefix on 12 July 1947. It was absorbed into the Royal New Zealand Logistics Regiment on 9 December 1996.

Royal New Zealand Engineers Originally they were called NZ Engineer Volunteers. They became  NZ Engineers on 1 June 1923 and were granted the "Royal" prefix 12 July 1947.

  • For a brief while the Intelligence Corps existed during WW2. It was resurrected in 1987. 

 

  • For a while they wore the British Intelligence Corps badges (upper left) until their own was designed, based on the WW2 version (centre left).

 

  • There was also a QC bullion version (lower left)

  • 3 February 1927 saw the formation of the New Zealand Army Legal Department.
  • On 20 November 1950 it became the New Zealand Army Legal Service.

Royal New Zealand Logistics Regiment

RNZ Army Logistics Regt cloth patch

Original cloth patch badge from 1996 when the Regt was first formed and before the metal badges were produced. The yellow and black back ground represents the Wellington Logistics group based at Trentham Camp.

  • RNZ Logistics Regiment started life on 9 December 1996. 
  • It was created by amalgamating the 
    • Royal New Zealand Electrical & Mechanical Engineers
    • Royal New Zealand Ordnance Corps
    • Royal New Zealand Corps of Transport
  • For a while they used an interim cloth badge.
  • That was later replaced with a metal version

Royal NZ Army Logistics Regt Cap Badge

New Zealand Machine Gun Corps

2 versions of the MGC badge. 1 has the "stubby" barrel on the Vickers MG

  • This unit started life as the New Zealand Machine Gun Corps in 1916 and was disbanded in 1918 at the end of the war.
  • It served only in France. Also called New Zealand Machine Gun Specialists.
  • In 1940 it was re-raised in the form of 27 Battalion (Machine Gun).
  • As part of 2NZEF it saw service in Greece, Crete, North Africa & Italy.
  • It was disbanded in 1945.

 

 

Royal New Zealand Medical Corps
  • On 7 May 1908 medical units of the NZ Permanent Forces were formed into the  NZ Army Medical Corps and the units in the Territorial Force were formed into the NZ Medical Corps. 
  • On January 9, 1947 the two Corps were combined to form the NZ Army Medical Corps which gained the "Royal" prefix on 12 July 1947.

Royal New Zealand Military Police

Cap & collar of NZ Military Police

  • NZ Military Police formed in 1915 and served throughout WW1. 
  • They were disbanded in 1918 and reformed in 1939. 
  • They sailed with 1st Echelon to the Middle East. Again disbanded, in 1946, they were replaced by Provost Companies. 
  • The NZ Provost Corps was formed from those Companies on 18 February 1949.
  • They gained the "Royal" prefix on 18 July 1952 and later were renamed Royal New Zealand Military Police in the early 1980s.

Royal New Zealand Nursing Corps

<<<  New Zealand Army Nursing Service. They also wore the "nurse's" fern leaf lapel badge (below) which came in left and right versions.

 

  • The RNZNC started life as the New Zealand Medical Corps Nursing Reserve on the 14 May 1908.

  • 11 January 1915 it was renamed to the New Zealand Army Nursing Service. It served in all theatres and on hospital ships during WW1.

  • 3 July 1953 saw the NZANS replaced by the Royal New Zealand Nursing Corps
