Royal Winnipeg Rifles collar with the incorrect motto. This collar was first worn by the Winnipeg Rifles in 1912. The motto is incorrect as it was made to say "Hostium Nominati" instead of "Hosti Acie Nominati" which was the correct motto for this regiment. The "Little Black Devils" were given their name by the enemy after the battles of Batoshe and Fish Creek in 1885. A correct collar was struck in 1914 and is still being currently worn by this regiment. The Royal Winnipeg Rifles are the oldest regiment in Western Canada having been formed in 1883
