New South Wales School of Aviation Application Form and others

“New South Wales Rifle Association.” This is an original receipt for subscription to the New South Wales Rifle Association in 1894. Date: 14th February 1894. This measures 3.75” x 6.5”.
Subscription was for Colonel Frederick Wells. 

"School of Aviation, New South Wales". This is an original application and regulations for the New South Wales School of Aviation in Australia. 3 sheets, each measures 8.4" x 13.2". Date: Regulations sheet was printed in 1917. There are two copies of the application form - one has been filled in by the applicant giving his military history, the other is still blank. Condition: All three pages have a tear on the upper left, all show signs of useage but are tidy, the blank application shows browning and wear to the back, blank application has a couple holes from insect bites and is in fair condition, the other two sheets are still in reasonable condition overall.

  • The image above was taken in two scans due to the size of this item. The scans do not quite join up, but the item is not split or damaged down the center. This is an original colonial military appointment for a member of the New South Wales Military Forces. This appoints Frederick Wells "to be Lieutenant Colonel in the New South Wales Infantry forming part of the Soudan Expedition Contingent". This appointment is signed by the Govenor and Commander in Chief Augustus Loftus, and is dated 27th February 1885.
    This retains it's covered original seal. Single sheet, this measures 17" x 13.1".

This is an original colonial military appointment promoting a member of the New South Wales Military Forces. This appoints Lieutenant Colonel Frederick Wells "to be Brevet Colonel to bear date of 21st December 1885 in recognition of services in the Soudan". This appointment is signed by the Govenor and Commander in Chief Baron Carrington, and is dated 6th April 1886. This retains it's original seal. Single sheet, this measures 16.9" x 13.3".

This is an original memorandum from Colonel Wells to Colonel Spalding of the New South Wales Volunteer Artillery withdrawing his “recommendation in favour of Captain W. J. Just’s appointment as a probationary officer in the regiment under my command”. There is a correction so this may have become a draft. Single page, measures 8.6” x 6.75”. Date: March 13th 1893.
“To William Seymour Wells from his affectionate brother, F.B.Seymour Wells, late private in the N.S.Wales Contingent in the Soudan.” This is an original cabinet photograph showing a private in the New South Wales Volunteer forces who attended the Soudan and nicely signed on the back. This was one of the sons of Colonel Frederick Wells who also attended the Soudan. Photographer: B.C.Boake, 488 George Street, Sydney, Australia. Date: Not dated, Barcroft Capel Boake was active at this address from 1885 to 1888. Photos from from the estate of Anne Seymour Wells, a descendant of Frederick Wells, a Colonel in the Volunteer Forces who also was in the Soudan Expedition in 1885 and William Seymour Wells, who was a Lieutenant in the NSW Volunteer Forces.
