2/17 RNSWR

INF0003

The 1987 reorganisation of the Army Reserve, involving a reduction in the number of infantry battalions across Australia, brought about the I inking of the 2nd and 17th Battalions and a public ceremony on 5 December of that year marked the presence of the new 2/17 RNSWR.

Well-established patterns of training, including overseas and major exercise participation, have continued, whilst a significant contingent from the battalion's Pipes and Drums took part in the British Army Scottish Division's Beating Retreat in London in 1990.

  • In April 1990 the unit provided noteworthy assistance in the Nyngan area flood disaster relief.
  • In December 1990 it was involved in Newcastle earthquake relief activity, and in
  • 1995 it took a notable role in the major tri-Service 'Kangaroo' Exercise.
